Restrictions

The start of the 2022 school year has been adjusted to minimise the peak of COVID cases.

Students will return to face-to-face learning in the following stages:

  • Monday 31 January and Tuesday 1 February 2022 will be preparation days
  • From Wednesday 2 February 2022:
    • Preschool, Reception and Years 1, 7, 8 and 12 will return to face-to-face learning
    • Years 2 to 6, and Years 9 to 11 will participate via remote learning
  • From Monday 14 February 2022, all year levels will return to face-to-face learning.

Parents who are required to work and do not have appropriate supervision for their children can choose to send their child to school for online learning supervision and activities, including on preparation days.

Masks are voluntary in South Australian schools — including for staff and in childcare centres. For information on face mask requirements, see Face masks – South Australia in the Restriction Checker.

Mandatory vaccination of staff and volunteers

Staff and volunteers who work in early childhood education and schools — who don’t have a medical exemption — must have their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by the start of the 2022 school year.

This rule includes Catholic and independent schools. The rule doesn’t apply to:

  • children
  • people with medical exemptions
  • parents and carers who only drop off and collect their kids from school
  • incidental visitors such as:
    • delivery drivers
    • urgent maintenance workers
    • people helping in an emergency
