Face masks – Tasmania

Updated on 26 September 2022, at 14:30 AET

Current Restrictions

Anyone aged 12 years and over must wear a face mask in the following situations — unless they are exempt:

  • confirmed COVID-19 cases — in circumstances where they may have contact with others and when they leave isolation on day 5 until 7 days after they test positive in all settings that are not their home
  • close contacts — when outside their home

Some venues may choose to keep mask rules based on a risk assessment. Businesses and organisations may need staff or patrons to wear masks as part of their COVID-19 Safety Plans.

You are encouraged to wear a mask if you cannot physically distance, work in a public-facing role, or you are vulnerable to COVID-19.

Children under 12 and those with exemptions do not need to wear a mask. Toddlers under the age of 2 and babies must not wear masks since they are a choking and suffocation risk.

If you have a medical reason for not wearing a mask, you will need a certificate or documentation from a medical professional.
