Quick read: Prepare your home for COVID
If a household or family member tests positive for COVID-19, you should set up an area or room where they can stay away from others if possible.
Everyone in the home will need to take precautions straight away, so it’s good to buy medicines, cleaning products and essential groceries ahead of time.
Here are some tips to help you get ready and stay safe.
What you need to know
A person with COVID-19 should have a separate, well-ventilated room to sleep in, with access to a separate bathroom, if possible.
Because frequently touched surfaces — such as door handles, light switches, toilets, taps and sinks — will need to be cleaned often, ensure you have enough disinfectant and detergent.
Stock up on face masks, rapid antigen tests (RATs), soap, hand sanitiser, disposable gloves, tissues, lozenges and pain-relief medication such as paracetamol and ibuprofen.
Provide easy access to tissues, lined bins and soap or alcohol-based hand sanitiser throughout your home.
Make sure the person with COVID-19 has their own dishes, cups, cutlery, towels, bedding and other personal items, since these shouldn’t be shared with others in the household.
