If a household or family member tests positive for COVID-19 you’ll need to set up an area or room where they can isolate, if possible.
Everyone in the home will need to take precautions straight away, so it’s good to buy medicines, cleaning products and essential groceries ahead of time.
Here are some tips to help you get ready and stay safe.
What you need to know
The person with COVID-19 should have a separate, well-ventilated room to sleep in — with access to a separate bathroom, if possible.
Because frequently touched surfaces — such as door handles, light switches, toilets, taps and sinks — will need to be cleaned often, ensure you have enough disinfectant and detergent.
Also stock up on masks, soap, hand sanitiser, disposable gloves, tissues and pain-relief medication such as paracetamol.
Provide easy access to tissues, lined bins and soap or alcohol-based hand sanitiser throughout your home.
Make sure the person with COVID-19 has their own dishes, cups, cutlery, towels, bedding and other personal items, since these shouldn’t be shared with others in the household.
