Just diagnosed with coeliac disease

1-minute read

It’s common to feel very emotional when you are diagnosed with coeliac disease (pronounced SEE-lee-ak). Some people feel relieved to know what was causing their symptoms, others feel overwhelmed and uncertain about the future. It’s important to remember that you are not alone and there is help available. For more information call Coeliac Australia on 1300 458 836.

When you are diagnosed your doctor may see if you have any complications related to coeliac disease such as anaemia or osteoporosis.

Coeliac disease also runs in the family. You should tell close relatives who share your genes (for example, your parents or siblings) that you have coeliac disease, so they can be tested.
