Palliative Care Australia’s leadership in promoting and advocating for quality palliative care for the past 30 years has led to greater investment in palliative care services, research and training.
They believe quality palliative care occurs when strong and well-co-ordinated networks exist between specialist palliative care providers, primary generalist, primary specialist and support care providers and the community. That is why they are dedicated to connecting communities with high-quality palliative care services – wherever and whenever they need support.
Palliative Care Australia launched in 1998, developing from the Australian Association for Hospice and Palliative Care Inc which started in 1991. Their work is aligned with the priorities in the National Palliative Care Strategy.
Vision and mission
Quality palliative care for all who need it.
influence, foster and promote the delivery of quality palliative care for all who need it, when and where they need it.
How Palliative Care Australia can help
Palliative Care Australia represents all those who work towards high quality palliative care for all Australians. They work closely with consumers and carers, members organisations and affiliate members, and the palliative care and broader health, aged care and disability care workforce with the aim to improve access to, and promote the need for, high-quality palliative care.
Anyone looking for local or national specialist palliative care services and providers should refer to the National Palliative Care Service Directory. The purpose of the Directory is to provide consistent, reliable and easily accessible information and contact details about palliative care services and supports to the Australian public. The Directory also includes services that provide general palliative care such as general practices and allied health, and information about organisations and community support agencies who provide services to people living with a life-limiting illness and/or their carers.
The Directory may not provide a complete list of services and support that may be available to you, and it is important that you discuss your health and care needs with your treating team.
