The test requires patients to walk on an exercise treadmill.  The test is therefore not suitable for patients whose exercise capacities may be limited by conditions such as:

—    Obesity				
—    Osteoarthritis - hips and knees
—    COAD 				
—    Peripheral vascular disease

Certain changes on the resting ECG also invalidate this test such as: 

—    Atrial fibrillation
—    Left bundle branch block 	
—    Paced rhythm
—    Widespread ST-T changes	
—    WPW syndrome
