Tresillian Family Care Centres is Australia’s largest early parenting support organisation with services for parents with a newborn, baby or child aged up to three years. Our Parent’s Help Line can assist with queries relating to children aged up to five years.

Our children's vision services are provided in the home, at pre-schools and schools, and within the community. A child is never too young to receive assistance from Guide Dogs.  

Specialised children's programs may include:

-	Mobility Day group programs in school holidays;
-	Concept development such as height, distance and direction;
-	Family weekends.

This enables children to better understand the world in which they live.

GUIDE DOGS NSW/ACT

ACT Health offer regular New Parent Groups, which involve a 4-week free group session facilitated by a Maternal and Child Health (MACH) Nurse.

They provide an opportunity to: Meet first time parents with babies of a similar age (3-4 months); Discuss topics and issues related to caring for your baby and Find out how to access services available to parents in the community.

Clients can access this service by phoning Community Health Intake on (02) 6207 9977 between 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 3:30pm Wednesdays (excluding public holidays).

This service is free to Medicare and Asylum Seeker card holders.

Maternal and Child Health (MACH) Nursing Service - Phillip

All families with children in the ACT can use the Child at Risk Health Unit (CARHU).  

To access the service contact the Duty Worker on (02) 6244 2712 during business hours. The Duty Worker will give consultation on health related concerns about children/young people suspected of being abused.

For After Hours assistance call The Canberra Hospital switchboard on 6244 2222 to contact the Child at Risk Medical Consultant.

Child at Risk Health Unit (CARHU)

ACT Health provides Maternal and Child Health (MACH) clinics and wellness support for families with newborn babies and/or young families. 

No appointment is required for these brief 15-20 minute drop-in consultations which are provided at various health centre locations.

MACH clinics can provide information on: 
Baby and child health issues; Baby and child health development; Nutrition and breastfeeding; Sleep and unsettling issues; Parenting and advice for new parents;Child safety; Behavioural issues and Postnatal depression and/or anxiety.

This service is free to Medicare and Asylum Seeker card holders.

Maternal and Child Health (MACH) Nursing Service - Weston Creek

Available by appointment only. Call ahead to confirm availability. 
The Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) has many local groups supporting mothers and providing fun, informative meetings.

Meeting times are pre-arranged and the groups will be looked after by a trained ABA volunteer breastfeeding counsellor or educator who lives in the area. 

Most groups will get together once or twice a month for a variety of activities such as:

–	Discussions on breastfeeding and parenting topics;
–	A talk from a guest speaker;
–	A lunch, morning or afternoon tea and chat;
–	A play in the park, a walk or visit to a local attraction;
–	A special event such as a movie afternoon or dinner out.

Maternal and Child Health (MACH) Nursing Service - Narrabundah

Antenatal Shared Care.

The Step Ahead Program provides antenatal care and education for pregnant clients of the Junction Youth Health Service. 

This program is provided by the Canberra Hospital Antenatal Clinic. Clients can access a midwife and a social worker for antenatal check-ups, referral and advocacy including housing support, support to continue formal education and parenting support and education.

Calvary Bruce Private Hospital

Our Maternal and Child Health (MACH) service cares for children (up to 5 years) and supports parents/carers with information and health advice for maternal and child health and development, breastfeeding and emotional wellbeing concerns. 

Our nurses are Registered Nurses/ Midwifes and hold additional qualifications in maternal, child and family health.
