St John of God Raphael Services - Ballarat

The PEHP is a home-based service for women and families experiencing emotional difficulties during pregnancy or after the birth of a baby.

Perinatal Emotional Health Program (PEHP)

Domiciliary midwives can visit you at home during the first week of discharge from hospital, offering lactation support and postnatal checks on mother and baby. Postnatal physiotherapy classes are held twice weekly. This is a free class and is usually attended by mothers during their hospital stay.

St John of God Raphael Services - Geelong

The Mother Baby Unit (MBU) is located at the Werribee Mercy Hospital and is an eight bed, eight cot inpatient unit providing specialist inpatient mental health care for mothers with infants of up to 12 months of age. The Mother Baby Service provides the following services, antenatal and postnatal psychiatry, mother baby psychiatry and infant mental health assessment and management of psychiatric disorders in pregnancy and post birth.

Werribee Mercy Hospital

Gidget House provides free specialist psychological treatment services for people throughout the perinatal period: from conception until the baby is 12 months old. Support is also provided to those people and their partners, who have experienced birth trauma, pregnancy related loss or who are going through assisted reproduction. Gidget House provides a maximum of 10 free individual face to face psychological counselling sessions.

Dr Benjamin Chia (Ben) is a consultant psychiatrist that sees patients from age 14 and older. Ben does a thorough mental health assessment that takes into account experience across the lifespan.  From there, Ben will try to develop a shared understanding with the patient that informs the treatment.  


While Ben does utilise medication where required, he is a strong believer in the necessity for psychological therapy and has committed most of his continuing professional development to psychotherapy training.


In order to see Ben you will need a referral from your GP. Ben does not see patients via funding from Workcover or TAC.
