Weddings, funerals and religious services - Northern Territory

Updated on 16 July 2021, at 15:30 AET

There is no limit to the number of people at a wedding or funeral in the Northern Territory.

Places used for religious worship are open.

Participants at weddings, funerals and religious ceremonies must practise physical distancing and proper hygiene measures, including:

  • using hand sanitiser if hand-washing facilities aren't available
  • keeping 1.5 metres from people they don’t live with
  • avoiding crowding together at the beginning or end of events

Venues should arrange seating so different groups aren’t seated face-to-face — where possible.

The NT now requires businesses, organisations and venues — including places of worship, restaurants and function centres — to collect customer contact details as part of the COVID-Safe Check-In system. Businesses must also review their COVID-19 Safety Plan every 6 months and appoint a COVID Safety Supervisor.

Mandatory check-in

The Territory Check-In App is mandatory for use in all NT businesses, shopping centres, venues and events. Pen and paper check-in is permitted if you don’t have a smartphone. You will be required to check in everywhere you go, no matter how long you spend at that location.
