Face masks – Western Australia

Updated on 26 September 2022, at 13:40 AET

Mandatory face masks

Masks are no longer required at venues, in offices or at indoor gatherings.

Masks are only required for people aged 12 and over in:

  • hospitals, aged care and disability care facilities
  • prisons and correctional facilities

You are strongly encouraged to wear masks indoors and where physical distancing isn't possible.

If you're in an area where mask rules are in place, you can remove your mask if:

  • you're in someone's home (either your own or someone else's)
  • you're eating or drinking, or taking medicine
  • you've been asked to remove your mask to confirm your identity
  • you have a physical, developmental or mental illness, injury, condition or disability which makes wearing a face covering unsuitable
  • you're communicating with a person who is deaf or hard of hearing and visibility of the mouth is essential for communication
  • you need to remove your mask to perform your job safely
  • you're working alone in an indoor space
  • you're a resident in a residential aged care facility or residential disability facility, or a patient in a hospital
  • you are swimming, running or otherwise engaged in some form of strenuous exercise or physical activity
  • you're travelling in a private vehicle either alone, or with members of your household
  • you're undergoing medical, dental or beauty related care or treatment
