Face masks – Northern Territory

Updated on 17 May 2022, at 17:55 AET

If you’re 12 years or older, you must wear a face mask in the following high-risk areas:

  • hospitals and other healthcare facilities
  • aged-care and residential-disability facilities
  • correctional facilities
  • shelters, such as those for people experiencing family violence
  • airports and aircrafts

People with certain medical conditions and children under 12 years don’t need to wear a face mask.

The Northern Territory government highly recommends that all people aged 12 years and over wear a mask when they can’t physically distance from others.

Children under 12 years don’t need to wear a face mask. Toddlers and babies under 2 years must not wear a face mask since it’s a suffocation and choking risk.

For more information on mask restrictions and exemptions, visit coronavirus.nt.gov.au and click on ‘Current restrictions, rules and exposure sites’.
