Cafes, restaurants and pubs – South Australia

Updated on 26 February 2021, at 16:25 AET

Restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, pubs, food courts and takeaway food outlets are open. These restrictions apply:

  • there’s no patron limit — but density limits apply
  • indoor venues and outdoor hospitality venues are limited to 1 person per 2 square metres
  • up to 200 people can attend private functions at licensed venues
  • patrons can stand while consuming drinks at licensed premises
  • QR reader technology must be in place to capture customers’ details for contact tracing

COVID-Safe Check-In will be used for contact tracing purposes. To find out more, visit covid-19.sa.gov.au and click ‘COVID-19 Response’. Then click ‘COVID Safe Check-In’.

For more information, visit covid-19.sa.gov.au, select ‘Directions’ and click on ‘Public Activities’.

Dancing is allowed at venues, subject to the following:

  • If the venue capacity is less than 200 patrons, all patrons can dance at a time. This is providing the venue follows normal COVID-19 restrictions including having QR check-in codes, COVID marshals and no more than 1 patron per 2 square metres.
  • If the venue capacity is between 200 and 1,000 patrons, dancing is allowed in a designated area for up to 50 people at a time — providing the venue follows normal COVID-19 restrictions. This includes having QR check-in codes, COVID marshals and no more than 1 patron per 2 square metres.
  • If a venue hosts more than 1,000 patrons, a COVID Management Plan needs to be in place.

Face masks

The SA Government strongly recommends that you wear a face mask if you leave your home and can’t stay 1.5 metres from others.
