The practice maintains a 24 hr 7 day a week on call availability for our patients from the Canberra, Wagga, Goulburn, Moruya, Bega, and Queanbeyan  dialysis units, and patients who access the Emergency Departments of those hospitals. When on leave, cover arrangements are put in place.

Access Nephrology

Renal Medicine Ward 8B is located in Building 1, Level 8, Canberra Hospital.  The 19 bed ward cares for renal patients encompassing pre-dialysis, haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and post transplantation. Other medical specialities are also catered for on this ward.  Ward visiting times are below, and this ward also operates on weekends and public holidays.

Canberra Hospital - Renal Services

Acute Dialysis is located in Building 15, Canberra Hospital.  The unit consists of a 10 bed facility providing haemodialysis to acute and unstable in and out patients.  The unit is open from 7:00am to 10:00pm daily except Sundays, Christmas and New Year's Day.

The unit also provides an after hours closed call service for urgent haemodialysis.

Renal administration is located in Building 15, Canberra Hospital. For information on appointments, referrals and renal services available please call the reception on the number provided.

Canberra Community Dialysis Centre is located at 7 Gaunt Place Garran (adjacent to the Canberra Hospital).  This service operates on weekends and public holidays.

Renal Supportive Care (RSC) provides multidisciplinary care that integrates the skills of renal medicine and palliative care to help patients (and their families) with End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) to live as well as possible by better managing their symptoms and enhancing their quality of life.  It encompasses advanced care planning, psycho-spiritual care and end-of-life care.  It is applicable to patients who have chosen a conservative non-dialysis treatment pathway and to patients on dialys

Goulburn Community Health Service - Renal Supportive Care

The Renal Outreach service has a  multi-disciplinary team that provides assistance, education, management, care and support to patients (in the Pre-dialysis, Dialysis, Transplant and Palliative care stages of Chronic Kidney Disease), and their families /carer across a large geographical area. The team also provides  resources, education, health promotion  and consultancy to health staff across the area. The Renal Outreach Nursing staff provide service under both planned and acute situations.
