We have two Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems in the department which provide detail about various parts of the body. MRI scans are used to investigate or diagnose conditions such as disease or injury to the heart, brain, digestive organs, tumours anywhere in the body and spinal and joint injury or disease.

The MRI machine uses a magnetic field and radio waves to take pictures of the body's interior. MRI scans are safe and available for neonates to adults.

Some patients may require a general anaesthetic to prepare them for the scan, and all patients are provided with hearing protection from the scanner noise.

Payment options: fees apply, bulk billing available for eligible patients.

MRI bookings can be made by phone, web, or email. We will make a booking, advise you of the cost and likely medicare rebate (where this applies). On the day we will talk you through the process from arrival to departure and answer your questions. You will be having a scan and/or procedure and a radiographer and sometimes doctor will guide you through the process.
