Hepatitis ACT is Canberra's community hepatitis organisation.  We are funded by ACT Health to provide a comprehensive range of hepatitis related services including information, education, training, prevention, support, advocacy and representation and referral.  Organisations and groups can access flexible and targeted no-cost information, education and training by arrangement with Hepatitis ACT.

Hepatitis ACT

Our prevention and education services are an integral component of the work of the organisation.  These are targeted to the ACT community and also affected communities including GLBT communities.  Peer education workshops are  regularly developed and delivered with these groups.  Websites and social marketing strategies are important services under this category.  This includes the AAC website and Qnet for same sex attracted youth, which is managed and updated by us.  

Local education campaigns that are developed by the AAC as well as national campaigns are implemented.  A program called HIV Today provides accurate information on current HIV related issues for human services organisations and other interested groups.  A regular newsletter is developed and circulated to members and related agencies, both government and non government.

St John Ambulance (ACT) provides quality first aid training to the public and businesses within Canberra. We sell first aid kits and other first aid components, and we can assist in restocking items of your kit through sales either online, in store or through one of our sales representatives. 

Additionally, volunteer first aid workers can be organised to attend community events.

SunSmart implements a combination of interventions aimed to affect individual sun protective behaviours balanced with advocacy for broader environmental and legislative change.

Cancer Council ACT

Free training is available to individuals and organisations (such as hospitals, nursing homes, schools, community nurses) to increase staff awareness of the capabilities of people with vision loss to move independently through the environment. 

Falls prevention is a major theme of these talks, as well as good communication strategies when interacting with people who have limited vision.

Canberra Health Services offers community-based physiotherapy for short term treatment for people experiencing a wide range of conditions including:

muscle, bone and joint injuries
joint pain and arthritis
spinal problems
recovery after surgery
walking assessment and walking aid loan
problems with walking or balance
pelvic pain, incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.

Sleep Education Series

A Good sleep is one of life's pleasures so it's concerning that many are troubled by poor sleep and daytime tiredness. It is also worrying that many are not aware that snoring could be a sign of unrecognized sleep apnea, which left untreated could result in trips to the toilet at night and/or high blood pressure and tiredness, along with potential damage to the heart and brain.

The sleep education series seeks to translate scientific knowledge and clinical practice into engaging presentations for the general community. Dr Grant Wilson, the Sleep and Lifestyle Clinic director will inform and dispel many myths surrounding sleep disorders and their management.

Classes aim to provide expectant parents with the knowledge and confidence to successfully breastfeed.
