Victim Support Service Inc

Victim Support Service (VSS) provides free and confidential help to adult victims of crime, witnesses, their family, and friends across South Australia. We have an office in Adelaide and offices in seven country areas.

We provide counselling and therapy for children, adolescents, adults and families dealing with drug, alcohol and other dependencies, relationship difficulties, anxiety, behavioural issues, depression, stress, grief, trauma, psychiatric conditions, personality disorders, workplace issues, conflict resolution, hepatitis and HIV. Sex therapy solutions.

Please phone for an appointment and we'll help you take the first step.Average wait for an appointment is 1-2 weeks. Emergency appointments, after hours, weekend and home visits are available in certain circumstances.

Briony Barton provides private and confidential therapy and counselling for individuals, couples and families who would like to change something about their life.

Laura and District Hospital

Laura Hospital is part of the Southern Flinders Health Services with 17 beds comprising of 12 residential care beds and five acute beds, with a 24 hour accident and emergency department which is serviced by two doctors. Basic radiology is provided to general practitioners and trained nursing staff. Community health services include health promotion activities, education and support groups, outreach and palliative care, nursing and Home and Community Care Services. Peterborough Soldiers' Memorial Hospital and Health Service

Peterborough Soldiers' Memorial Hospital and Health Services is part of the Mid North Health Services. Peterborough operates a hospital and emergency service, providing general medical and surgical care and a range of allied health services. We provide birthing and operating theatre facilities as well as residential facilities for older people in need of either high or low levels of care.

Who is a Victim of Crime

A victim of crime is a person who has suffered harm because of a criminal act.  The harm can be physical injury, emotional trauma or financial loss.
A victim may include those directly affected by crime, or their families and friends.  It also includes witnesses to a crime and relatives of a person who dies as a result of a crime.

Recovering from Crime

After experiencing a crime you may experience difficulty in continuing your daily activities.

-- try to rest as much as possible

-- Invite a friend to stay with you for a few hours a day.

-- Maintain a normal schedule of activities, if possible

-- Eat well balanced and regular meals - even if you do not feel like it

-- Express your feelings when they arise

-- Try to keep a reasonable level of physical activity

-- You may think about your experiences and have flashbacks or nightmares - they may decrease over time and become less painful.

Loddon Mallee Victims Assistance Program

The Victims Assistance Program provides services to victims of violent crime against the person. Agency staff aims to assist victims to effectively manager and recover from the effects of crime and tailor services to individual needs.
The Victims Assistance Program is a free service that provides information, practical assistance and referrals to other services.
It offers supports to access the criminal justice system (for both reported and unreported crimes) and to lodge Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal (VOCAT) applications where eligible.
•	Practice Assistance is wide ranging and can include:
•	Referral to other services, such as solicitors, medical and mental health;
•	Criminal justice information, advocacy, support in making statements with police and courts;
•	Support at court and VOCAT hearings;
•	Assistance with preparing Victim Impact Statements and submissions made to the Adult Parole Board;
•	Counselling and other therapeutic interventions.
Who is the service for?
Any person who has experienced or witnessed a violent crime can use the service.
If you are unsure if you are eligible for this service call the Victims of Crime Helpline on 1800 819 817 (free call – except for mobile phones) for advice. The free call Helpline operates between 9am-11pm Monday to Friday (except public holidays).
