The role of the SHBBV Unit is to develop, implement and evaluate sexually transmitted infection (STI) and blood borne virus (BBV) policies, prevention and treatment programs in the NT. The program provides clinical services through Clinic 34 in Alice Springs, Darwin, Tennant Creek, Nhulunbuy and Katherine. It supports remote sexual health programs through remote sexual health coordinators who are co-located alongside urban clinical services. The SHBBV unit also reports on and disseminates STI and BBV notifiable diseases data to the DoH and collates epidemiological information related to the planning and evaluation of STI and BBV prevention programs.
