The Quit Program aims to help individuals QUIT smoking and to support them during the process. One on one sessions are available with the Community Health Nurse who is an accredited QUIT educator.

Castlemaine District Community Health

The smoking cessation nurse uses a supportive style to help people address smoking cessation at the patient's pace and to meet the individual's needs. Support and a non-judgemental approach are the back-bone of this service.

Brooke Street Medical Centre

Advice, information and ongoing support is provided by specialist trained Nurses to help clients quit smoking. Therapy modes may include nicotine replacement therapy, pharmacotherapy, group education and behaviour modification. Clients are managed in collaboration with their GP.

Melton Health & Community Services

An accredited facilitator is available to assist people to stop smoking.  Services available include:
-- Fresh Start Course - group program run over 4 weeks and involing 2 one hour sessions each week.
-- Short Course - a 2 session program.  Each session is of 3 hours duration and are held 2 weeks apart.  It is combined with Quitline support and self help sheets.
-- Workplace seminars - a 1 hour information session, used to assist in the implementation of no smoking policies in workplaces.
-- One-to-one Counselling for people needing assistance and support to stop smoking.

East Grampians Health Service - Ararat

The service offers support, education and community liaison to patients, families, general practitioners and other healthcare professionals.

The Respiratory Outreach Program provides services to patients admitted with asthma and COPD to hospital, patients are visited and provided with information and educational material about their condition. This includes discussions about smoking cessation, vaccination recommendations, available exercise programs, use of action plans and advice re correct use of prescribed medications and inhaler devices.  Within 3 days of discharge from hospital, they will be reviewed by telephone to check on their progress.

A special hotline (Phone number 8345 6804) is in place to enable recently discharged patients with respiratory conditions to ring and talk to a respiratory nurse if they have any questions regarding their health.  The nurse will assess the patient's requirements and implement interventions as required such as suggesting the patient visit their general practitioner, come to the Emergency Department, or seek social work assistance.
