Direct bookings may be made by General Practitioners for Pensioners and Health Card Holders by faxing the Endoscopy Booking and Referral Form. For other categories of patients first contact the Gastroenterology Registrar. Please advise on the form if patient is on anti-coagulants, insulin or has other special medical or social needs. In most instances, we will book your patient within 14 days.  A written report will be forwarded to you. 

Patients must fast for six hours prior to the test.  Patients should not have a heavy breakfast if the test is being done in the afternoon and should not take antacids for 24 hours prior to the test.  Blood pressure tablets and other medications should be continued. 

Patients undergoing this procedure do not require overnight admission, however they will require someone to take them home from hospital following the procedure and to stay with them overnight. If you have any queries regarding this procedure, please contact the Endoscopy Unit on 8345 6338.

This clinic will provide advice to patients who are concerned about their personal risk of bowel cancer. Referrals will be those who have a family, or possibly personal history, of colorectal carcinoma or polyps. If patients are high risk, with a high likelihood of an inherited gene mutation, they will be redirected to a joint Familial Cancer Clinic for possible genetic testing. When cancers are likely to be sporadic, advice will be given about screening options. Patients will generally be seen only once. Referrals should be made by telephoning the above number.
