Aboriginal Health Unit.

The Aboriginal Health Team assists and supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, their families and escorts during their stay at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. They can also help patients and their family to understand the hospital processes and procedures.  The Aboriginal Health Team works across the hospital and can assist inpatients and outpatients.

Medical services include antenatal and postnatal care, children's, women's and men's health, immunisation and chronic disease management. Other clinic services include audiologist, podiatrist, paediatric registrar, psychiatrist, psychologist and gastroenterologist or referrals to dental and aboriginal and maternal infant care services. Nunkuwarrin Yunti clients will be seen by an Aboriginal Health Worker or nurse for an assessment prior to seeing the doctor.

Aboriginal Liaison Officers visit all Aboriginal inpatients with the aim of ensuring their medical, practical and cultural needs are met while at the WCH. The Unit also offers a place for Aboriginal people to gather whilst visiting the WCH and staff of the Unit act as a cultural broker to staff of the WCH and to clients. 

Referrals can be made to the Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Unit by WCH clinical teams, other staff, other Aboriginal health services/workers and country and interstate hospitals. 

Corporate Shuttle is the transport provider for people who are staying in Aboriginal Hostels or Samuel Way Accommodation, for them to attend medical appointments  or go to the airport. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health services at GP Plus Super Clinic Noarlunga include nutrition, diabetes, men's and women's health, referrals to appropriate services eg SADS,mental health, Aboriginal Kinship Program (drug and alcohol misuse), grief and loss, drop in, client and Elder support, Aboriginal Maternal Infant care: EntryProcedures Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples Health Team actively supports local Aboriginal people to work towards improving their health and the health of their community. Drop in or call the Health Team, no referral is needed.
