The Homicide Victims Support Group is a mutual support group for families and friends whose loved ones have been murdered. We hold monthly meetings and produce a regular newsletter. We can also arrange to meet one-to-one. We offer long term support with no restrictions on time.

The Advocacy Group is a consumer group, which meets bi monthly and provides a forum for consumers to meet, discuss issues and plan outings and recreational activities. This group is open to all SRS consumers as well as other people with disabilities and or staff who may wish to attend. Consumers who live independently host these meetings with support from Independent Living Assistants. A meal is shared after the meeting which gives consumers the opportunity to meet on a more informal basis. Guest speakers are sometimes invited to the meetings.

The Breast Care Support Service is staffed by Specialist Nurses

-- Practical and emotional support to women who have breast surgery and their families.

-- Provision of information and timely referral to other health care partners/providers

-- Literature and advice on breast cancer when required.

-- Introduction and information to the resources and service of, Cancer Council of Vic, 13 11 20 and Sunraysia Breast Care Support Service. Access to Connectingcare volunteers and local Cancer Support Groups

-- Provide temporary bra and prosthesis

-- Provide funding and referral for first permanent prosthesis.

-- Provide support pre and post discharge from hospital.

Information regarding specific issues including:

-- Pre and post-operative care

-- Hand and arm care following auxiliary clearance

-- Exercises for recovery

-- Clothing and swim wear

Fees
There are no fees for this service.

Aims

-- To provide the person with breast cancer, their family and carers, with accurate information, comfort and support throughout the breast cancer journey.


-- To provide counseling and referral to services which may be needed during the experience, including treatment, of breast cancer.
