Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, often disabling disease that randomly attacks the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). The progress, severity and specific symptoms of the disease cannot be predicted; symptoms may range from tingling and numbness to paralysis and blindness. MS is a devastating disease because people live with its unpredictable physical and emotional effects for the rest of their lives. 

MS Grampians provides information, education and referral services for people who have multiple sclerosis and their families and secondary consultations are available for service providers.

Ballarat & District Aboriginal Co-Operative (BADAC)

Helping with mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, panic attacks, grief and loss and diagnosed mental illnesses. Support group members can share their problems, learn how to re-build their lives and report on their own progress. The program focuses on changing negative thinking and behaviour, and develop understanding, acceptance, and confidence.

Picket Fences

Lots of individuals with a disability have the capacity to live independently within the community with the right supports in place. Karden Disability Support Foundation (KDSF) empowers individuals with a disability to make choices and have control about the life they wish to lead.
 
Picket Fences offers individuals the opportunity to express their interest in living independently within their local community. The program also offers the prospect of sharing household costs and supports with the people they choice to live with. Picket Fences is a proactive approach to introducing people with similar interests and support needs with other people who are actively seeking alternative accommodation.
   
KDSF believes that each person has the right to have a support service that suits their individual needs. KDSF is a local not for profit organization that specializes in providing truly customised support for people with disabilities and their families living in the community.

Individualised Support can provide you with a range of supports depending on what your needs and circumstances are.  
These may include things like:
• Assistance to maintain and develop your skills to become more independent.  For example, shopping, budgeting, cooking, household tasks, paying bills, using public transport, solving problems, etc.
 
• Support to pursue educational opportunities.
   
• Support with your personal care needs, for example bathing, dressing, etc.

• Support to go out in the community, for example going to the local gym, banks, shops, going to the footy, etc.

• Assistance to maintain and develop friendships and social networks in your local community.

• Assistance to go to appointments such as to the doctors, dentists, community health services, etc.

Individuals registered with Picket Fences will have the opportunity to meet other people registered with Picket Fences by means of social group meeting or introduction meeting arranged by the program coordinator.
Picket Fences can also connect you with a number of local agencies to provide support you may require. Alternatively you may choose to maintain connects with your current support agency.

Karden Disability Support Foundation

Provides support for people living with an incurable illness and their families through an interdisciplinary palliative care service which includes: nursing, pastoral care, grief & bereavement, medical and volunteer services. Support is offered in the following areas: Assistance with transport, Shopping/errands, Day sitting with the patient, Companionship for the caregiver, On-going bereavement support.

Ballarat Hospice Care Inc

A national settlement program providing intensive settlement assistance to people from refugee & humanitarian backgrounds during their initial settlement, generally for the first six months after arrival in Australia.

The program provides support and assistance to peole to assist them to rebuild their lives through integrated services and linkages to appropriate government and non-government services.
