We work in partnership with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander women and their families and recognise and respect the experience, knowledge and skills each woman brings to her pregnancy, birth and mothering.

We acknowledge each woman's right to take responsibility for decisions involving herself, her baby and her family.

The Koori midwife is available to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women with individual care and support.

Referrals are required.

The Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer provides: Cultural, emotional, spiritual and clinical support to patients and families; Patient advocacy; Cultural consultation to clinicians; Support at family meetings with Doctors; Support re: Discharge planning

Bendigo Health

Bendigo and District Aboriginal Cooperative

Provides support to patients and families with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples backgrounds. An Aboriginal Service Development Worker works alongside hospital staff to help improve the care and support plans for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples patients while in hospital.
