Additional information
In-home respite care under VHC provides assistance to carers by allowing them a break from their caring roles. Tasks may include providing companionship, assistance with mobilisation and meal preparation. Eligible veterans or war widow/widowers and their carers may receive respite support. Respite care is available to veteran or war widow/widower households when the DVA card holder is the carer or the care recipient. Emergency respite care is provided to veterans and war widows/widowers when their carer is unable to provide care due to sudden and unforeseen circumstances, e.g. if your carer is suddenly or unexpectedly unable to continue looking after you because of a crisis situation and general community services are not available.
