The Emergency Department provides health care to approximately 3,500 people of all ages each month who have life threatening or non life threatening emergencies. Though the Emergency Department treats everyone equally, patients with private health insurance can choose to be admitted as a private patient within the hospital. Those patients may also choose to be transferred to a private hospital. If an ambulance is used, this is at the patient's own expense.
