Social Support
The social support service assist people in maintaining and creating social networks. The social support program offers a variety of activities either on an individual basis or in a group setting. The social support program is designed to assist those residing at home or in the community - not residential care facilities. Below are examples of the programs provided by Social Support:
Magazine delivery service
A delivery service for people who have a reduced capacity or who no longer are physically able to access reading materials for themselves. This service is delivered by volunteers.
Tele-monitoring services
A regular Telephone Contact Service provided by volunteers to ensure social connectedness and to monitor client security and well being
Diners Club
A group who meets once a month at cafes or hotels. Care is taken to select a variety of venues who are able to provide good quality food at reasonable prices.
Chewton Dinner Day
A group who meet monthly at the Chewton Community Centre, and enjoy a delicious 2 course home style meal prepared volunteers. Entertainment, guest speakers and games are arranged to add interest to the day – as well as enjoying the company of the other guests.
Day Trippers with Brian
Monthly outings arranged to places of interest. Volunteers / staff are on hand to assist where ever possible.
Occassional Services
Shopping Services
Trips to Bendigo shopping centers are available on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month. Clients must be able to shop independently, volunteers do accompany the group to assist where ever possible. The group always meet and have lunch as a group.
Movies
Morning coffee, and a light 'basket' lunch is included in the price, at the popular Theatre Royal in Castlemaine.
Picnic Day
Enjoy a day out and about taking in some fresh air and a small amount of exercise, in and around the Shire. BYO cut lunch helps with keeping costs to a minimum, and when weather permits a BBQ may be arranged.
Men's Day Out
A monthly activity where a group of gentleman go out and about on an organised activity
Blokes Basement
A monthly activity where men can enjoy the facilities of the 'Basement' which is a designated room equipped with a fridge, games, pool table etc, this is a place where men can enjoy the company of other menAll of these services are provided by volunteers
