The Dietitians provide nutrition and dietary advice to individuals, groups and the community with the aim to adopt healthy eating habits and lifestyles The cost for individual consultation: $14.70 for Non Health Care Card holders: $9.60 for Health Care Card Holders. Children 0-12 years where the parent or child is a Health Care Card holder: Free /Adolescents 12-18 years: Free.
Dieticians are qualified professionals who provide expert nutrition and dietary advice. A Dietician applies the science of human nutrition, combined with food knowledge and communication skills to educate on healthy eating. Dietitians provide advice on a wide range of nutrition related issues, including healthy eating, diabetes, heart health, overweight or underweight, gastrointestinal issues, introduction to solids and fussy eating in children. Dieticians aim to provide clients with the skills and knowledge to achieve optimal health and there is a strong emphasis on behaviour modification and self management. They work as part of a team with other allied health services and general practitioners.
The Dietitians runs Diabetes and Healthy Lifestyle groups and are involved in the Cardiac Rehabilitation program. The Dieticians also work with community groups to promote healthy eating eg. schools, child care centres, parents groups.
Written referrals are accepted from your doctor, health professional and community agencies but not essential. Self referrals are also accepted.
If a client is a newly diagnosed Diabetic following information should be forwarded:
Date of Diabetes diagnosis, medical history, current medication. The following pathology tests must be current (no more than 6 months old) : HbA1c or OGTT and/or 2 x fasting clucose, Renal Function: U&E including Micro Albumin, Cardiac: TG LDL HDL Total Chol/HDL ratio.
Pre - Diabetes: Medical history, Current medication, A fasting clucose or OGTT, Cardiac: TG LDL HDL Total Chol/HDL ratio
Referrals that do not have accompanying current pathology test will be rejected and will be returned to the referrer.
