The Youth Mental Health Service will treat 16 to 25 year olds with complex high prevalence disorders (severe anxiety and depression, eating disorders or disorders complicated by homelessness, substance abuse, forensic issues or intellectual disability) and those who are at risk of developing psychosis or with early manifestations of psychosis. YMHS will take a client centred approach to young people who have individuated from their family and are out of school or out of home (actually or psychologically).
Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) will treat young people (16 to 18) who are integrated within their families of origin as part of that family system.
Adult Mental Health Services (AMHS) will treat young people (16 and over) in acute crisis and those in need of ongoing case management. The service most skilled and able to meet the client's needs will provide clinical service and leadership.
Youth Early Psychosis Service (YEPS)
The Youth Early Psychosis Service (YEPS) aims to provide a service to young people aged between 16 and 25 who are either at risk of/or are experiencing a first episode of psychosis.
The service focus is to provide earlier and more intensive treatment, minimising disability associated with psychosis, including the impact of distress and trauma on both the young person and their family.
This service has close links with Child and Adolescent and Adult Mental Health Services.
YEPS responsibilities also include community education, liaison and service development in consultation with local youth service providers.
