GAMBLER'S HELP provides free and confidential therapeutic counselling and support, to individuals and their families in relation to problem gambling. From the 1st July 2008, St. Luke's Anglicare in partnership with Centacare commenced provision of the Gambler's Help Program throughout the Loddon Mallee Region.
Problem gambling is characterized by difficulties in limiting money and/or time spent on gambling which leads to adverse consequences for the gambler and others, or for the community.
The Gambler's Help Program offers a range of strategies to assist people deal with gambling issues. They include:
-- Therapeutic Counselling to address the addictive nature of gambling – flexible counselling is offered in a style to suit client's needs and underlying issues.
-- Financial counselling to assist people with financial issues caused by gambling, working towards assisting clients to move towards financial security.
-- Community Education services to deliver a range of planned activities that increase awareness of problem gambling behaviour, responsible gambling behaviour, and helps to build community awareness and resilience.
-- Port Folio services that link across service providers to ensure co-ordination and integration of specialist gamblers help services, offering secondary consultation, provider education, co-counselling and brief intervention.
