Multicultural Women’s Health Education project to improve the health and wellbeing of women affected by Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
The project mobilises communities, health professionals, religious leaders and traditional leaders to reduce the incidence of FGM. It does so by increasing women’s access to information and services.
Multicultural Health Community Educators provide education in the language of the community, disseminating information about laws in Australia and the negative impact of the practice. The project reaches out to community members from the Horn of Africa and other countries where the practice is prevalent.
Through collaboration with health and other service providers, the project also develops awareness of FGM practices and the ways in which women affected by the practice can be better supported.
