Your initial session will last between 45 minutes and 1 hour.
A full medical history is taken including details of the current presenting condition and any previous episodes of musculo-skeletal pain or immobility.
The osteopath will then carry out an examination of the patient. This usually involves the patient performing a simple series of movements. Although it is preferred that this is carried out with the patient in their underwear it is not essential. The osteopath will then use a highly developed sense of touch, called palpation, to identify any points of weakness or excessive strain throughout the body. In conjunction with the findings from the physical examination, and the details obtained in the medical history, the osteopath will then try to reach a diagnosis and discuss a proposed treatment plan. It may not always be possible to reach a diagnosis at the initial consultation, as the osteopath may need additional investigations such as x-ray or blood tests.
The treatment usually comprises of any or all of the following: -
- Soft tissue/muscle massage; - Articulation and mobilisation of restricted joints; - Cranial Osteopathy; - Sound therapy and - Dry Needling
Osteopathy is patient centred which means the treatment is geared to you, the patient, as an individual. Follow Up Consultation/s are 30 minutes.
