Additional Information:
The RHD Program assists in the prevention of acute rheumatic fever (ARF) and ongoing management of patients who have previously had ARF or currently have RHD. The aim of the program is to reduce the recurrences of ARF, prevent or reduce further damage to the heart and lessen the burden of RHD amongst the people of the Northern Territory. The RHD Control Program is an integral member of the health team and provides a mediatory link between the client, their families and community, inclusive of the Cardiologists, Paediatricians, Health Centres Staff and Hospitals; through education, training and support to all.
The RHD program provides a territory wide outreach service, often accompanying a Paediatric Cardiologist on clinic visits. The RHD Nurse Coordinators offer support, training and one21seventy audits to the bigger communities and telephone support to other communities as required.
