TITLE
Occupational Therapy for Children (Public)
DESCRIPTION
Assessment and therapy for children focusing on fine and gross motor skills, attention and listening, sensory processing, play and self help skills. Usually on site one to one, but some school/kinder/home visits are offered. Groups are also offered in conjunction with Maternal and Child Health Nurses and other children's service providers at Inner East.
Group Programs offered include:
• Parent-Child Mother Goose: is a parent and child rhyme, song and storytelling group aimed at increasing the interaction between parents and their 0-2 year old children. This group is run by the Maternal and Child Health Service within Boorondara and supported by IECHS.
• Busy Bodies – A play based, parent training group therapy program for children aged 2-3 years with play, motor and communication delays.
• School Readiness – A group therapy program for children who have attended the service for Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy to facilitate transition to school.
ELIGIBILITY
Individual sessions are for children up to 12 years of age.
Priority is given to families whose parents live, work or study or their children attend school, preschool or child care in the City of Boroondara.

TITLE
Physiotherapy (Public)
DESCRIPTION
Physiotherapists treat people with a variety of problems which include, but are not limited to, back pain, neck pain, arthritis, balance problems, neurological disorders and paediatric concerns . Lack of fitness or physical debility. A range of physiotherapy services are provided across our three sites including:
• Individual assessment and treatment of a range of musculoskeletal and neurological conditions for both children and adults.
• Home visits for mobility assessments
• Group programs
• DAS - Assessment and treatment of adults with developmental and complex disabilities
Groups and programs:
Hydrotherapy
A range of water exercise and aquatic physiotherapy services are offered at Richmond, Kew and Ashburton. Some programs are ongoing, others are short term to train clients to be independent in their own specific exercise routines.
Falls Prevention
IE Health offers a Falls Prevention program called Steady for Life .This program runs over a 15 week period and combines an exercise class with client education sessions.
No Falls
No Falls exercise programs to residents of Boroondara and Yarra who are over the age of 70.The No Falls program works on strength and the functioning of the balance mechanisms to reduce the likelihood of falls. The program runs once per week over 15 weeks .
Disability Accommodation Services
The Physiotherapists at IE Health provide services for clients residing in Disability Accommodation Services. Our physiotherapists assess and treat clients who have problems with their walking, posture, pain and balance. They make recommendations regarding equipment (particularly walking frames and positioning aids) and provide guidelines for exercising safely.
Diabetes & Exercise
Our physiotherapists are able to assess and recommend appropriate exercise regimes for people with Diabetes or are Pre-diabetics. They make recommendations and provide guidelines for exercising safely. We are able to refer you to appropriate community based exercise programs after an assessment of your needs and preferences. We are also able to assist you with our own exercise programs which may enable you to progress on to community based programs.

Credentialed Diabetes Educator provides one-on-one and group education. The groups run both in the day time at Ashburton and the evening at Hawthorn. There are presentations from Dietician, Podiatrist, Physiotherapist, Psychologist and Credentialed Diabetes Educator. The course also has a supermarket tour with the Dietician it runs for 5 weeks. Diabetes Education is provided for people who are newly diagnosed to people going onto insulin and everything between. One – on – one appointments are conducted from Ashburton and Richmond. They are free of charge are generally run for 45 minutes. Bookings are made on Ph. 9885 6822
Diabetes Programs
DESCRIPTION
Two Diabetes programs are offered at Inner East Community Health to provide advice and support for clients who have diabetes or are at risk of developing diabetes. These programs are:
• Diabetes Education Group – This group is for adults with a diagnosis of diabetes.
The program includes a series of talks from a Dietician, Diabetes Nurse Educator, Podiatrist, Physiotherapist and Psychologist covering a wide variety of topics with regards to Diabetes Management. A supermarket tour is also included. Participants are provided with an information pack of resources and fact sheets and include NDSS sign up and Vic Roads registration.
• Life Diabetes Prevention Program – This is a clinically proven effective lifestyle modification program for adults who are at risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes. The program runs for 5 weeks on a fortnightly basis with a follow up 6 months post completion of the program.
ELIGIBILITY
For Diabetes Education Group – Adults who have Diabetes
For Life Diabetes Program the following eligibility criteria apply:
• Diabetes excluded (blood glucose test in last 12m); and
• History of a pre- existing high risk condition (i.e.: either Ischemic Heart Disease / Gestational Diabetes) regardless of their Australian Diabetes Risk Test (AUSDRISK) Score in adults aged 18+; or
• AUSDRISK score of 12 or more & ages over 40+ or over 18 if an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples

The Child and Family Team support parents and families to understand and manage their children's health and development so they reach their full potential.
