Community Support
Linking people recovering from a mental illness back into the community aids the recovery process, and assists in managing the illness. Participation in community programs or groups enhances lifestyle options and rebuilds a sense of belonging.
This program assists in accessing local community based social, recreational and educational opportunities, e.g. linking with local sporting, leisure or recreational groups, community houses or other places of learning. Community Support aims to develop skills, rebuild confidence and self-esteem, and re-create social networks and peer contacts. It aims to enhance the lifestyle options of persons who experience mental illness, re-build positive self image and a sense of belonging within the community.
A Resources Centre is open to clients, carers and students interested in information on psychiatric disabilities.
'Every Person has the right to be a valued member of the community in which they live'
Value and respect underpin the principles of Communitiy Support and are essential to active promotion of good mental health. We believe that because of this principle many of our clients have a reduction in the number of acute episodes.
The program is based on identifying the individual strengths of a person and then establishing an individual plan that sets achievable goals centred around the desired outcomes of that person. Programs are both flexible and individual, sensitive to regional and rural needs, and all choices and participation are self determined.
