The Service is for anyone looking to make healthier lifestyle changes including those who have one or more risk factors for chronic disease.
The Get Healthy Service has two streams, information only and a six month coaching program, allowing users to pick what's right for them.
The Service provides:
- information regarding healthy eating, physical activity and alcohol consumption reduction to callers
- individually tailored telephone coaching sessions (approximately ten calls over a period of six months) aimed at changing an individual’s behaviour to achieve their health related goal.
In addition to the standard Get Healthy Service, two tailored programs are offered.
1. Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Program
This program focuses on empowering participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent type 2 diabetes. It was developed in response to the growing rates of type 2 diabetes in NSW.
2. Aboriginal Program
This program was developed to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Get Healthy Service participants have access to a culturally appropriate service. It offers coaching and materials that are specific to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander communities.
The service operates during extended hours from Monday until Friday, 8am until 8pm to allow for calls to be made before and after business hours.
