As part of the National Network of Carers Associations, Carers NT is recognised at Territory, State and Federal levels as the voice of family carers, representing carers’ interests in the Northern Territory community.
A carer is someone who provides unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or drug related issue or frail aged. Nobody plans to become an unpaid family carer however it could happen to anyone at anytime.
There are 1 in 8 Australians with a caring responsibility at any one time. Also, with the Australian aging population it is highly likely that you will either be a carer or need to rely on a carer at some stage in your life.
