Carers NSW

Carers NSW is the only state-wide organisation that has carers as its primary focus. Carers NSW provides a range of services and supports, advocates for carers in NSW, and is also part of the national Network of Carers Associations, which works collaboratively to lead change and action for carers.

A carer is any individual who provides unpaid care and support to a family member or friend who has a disability, mental illness, drug or alcohol dependency, chronic condition, terminal illness or who is frail. Young carers are children and young people under the age of 25 years. There are approximately 2.7 million carers across Australia (about 12% of the population), including 857,200 carers in NSW.

The vision of Carers NSW is that all carers in NSW are recognised, valued and supported by the community and by governments.

Services provided by Carers NSW include:

  • Carer Line 1800 242 623
  • counselling and support
  • information and referral
  • Young Carer Program
  • Older Parent Carer Program
  • mental health respite: Carer Support Program
  • together carer support group program for carers of people with disability
  • research, policy and advocacy.
