Community mental health services

1-minute read

Community mental health services are free to the public. They are generally available for people with severe forms of mental illness.

There are different types of community mental health services. They usually have a range of different types of mental health professionals, including case managers, psychiatrists, social workers, occupational therapists, psychologists and drug and alcohol workers.

Most community mental health services operate from a clinic. In some cases, they see people in their homes.

Community mental health services can offer specific services. These services operate under a variety of names, such as:

  • acute care teams
  • home care teams
  • early psychosis intervention teams
  • youth mental health teams.
