Additional Information: CanDo 4 Kids is a family centred service providing quality specialist programs that are free to children and young people who are blind/vision impaired, deaf/hearing impaired and Deafblind (many of whom have additional disabilities) and their families across South Australia. Eligibility to register for services with Can:Do 4Kids - Young children who have an eye condition that can not be corrected by glasses or contact lenses or who have a bilateral hearing loss of greater than 20dB (mild, moderate, severe or profound) in the better ear or a unilateral loss of greater than 45dB (moderate, severe or profound). Referrals can be made by by parents, health professionals or or agency with parental permission. Our team can visit in the home or community setting on a regular basis, provide a report about the child's functional vision and developmental progress, collaborate with other service providers supporting the children and their families, organise group activities and provide opportunities for families and children to get to know one another and accompany parents to ophthalmology appointments. Additional Information: The occupational therapist can work with children and young people, and their families to assist them in hand skills, handwriting, drawing, cutting, posture during activities, sensory processing - how they respond to visual and auditory information, movement, touch, and information about the position of their body. Gross motor and fine motor coordination, problem solving, planning and organisational skills, independent living skills, self care, home tasks. See website for further information available: EntryProcedures Children who are blind/vision impaired and/or deaf/hearing impaired can be referred to the occupational therapy service by their parents, teachers, or other professionals working with them. Waiting list details Once a child has been referred an appropriate time and location will be negotiated for an assessment. Depending on the level of need the child may be offered regular individual therapy sessions, group programs, activity ideas for home and school, information for teachers and parents, consultation with kindy, school, childcare and / or other agencies. Additional Information: Pathways Consultants work with children and young people to encourage them to reach their full potential and focus on what they 'Can Do' giving them skills and self-confidence to have the same opportunities and experiences as other kids. The service works in collaboration with teachers and professionals and in partnership with the young person's family to achieve goals that best suit their needs. See website links for further information available. Eligibility to register for Youth Pathways (6 - 25 years old) who have a sensory impairment. Referrals can be made by parent/caregiver, any person or agency with permission from the individual or their parents/primary caregivers with a letter/report from a medical sepcialist to support. Our Auslan (Australian Sign Language) Programme is a family focused approach to language learning which helps Deaf children and children with impaired hearing learn to communicate through the use of signed language and learn English through Auslan as the 'language of instruction'. Additional Information: Our Auditory Processing Disorders Intervention Clinic provides therapy which targets listening, language, literacy and memory skills for children with Auditory Processing Disorders. An assessment of your child's abilities in these areas will be completed in order to find the specific skills they are experiencing difficulty with. Additional Information: Our qualified Speech Pathologists specialise in sensory impairment and can assist children, young people, and their families with the development of listening, speech and language, pre-literacy skills, and eating and drinking. ;See website links for further information available, Entry procedures CanDo4Kids provides a Speech Pathology service for children and young people who are Deaf or hearing impaired, Blind or vision impaired and who have auditory processing disorder. We provide comprehensive assessment and intervention for children from birth to school age, and develop individualised therapy programs to meet the specific needs of each child and family.
