Additional Information: Food Services (Delivered meals) is a service provided by the Gannawarra Shire Council, Community Care Service.

The Food Service is provided to maintain and enhance the clients health and well-being and to support their ability to live independently at home. The service also provides a monitoring function.

The Delivered Meals Service provides a healthy, well balanced midday meal to eligible residents, five days per week, within the Kerang, Cohuna and Quambatook areas.
There is also the option of additional weekend meals, delivered frozen on a day that is suitable for the client.

The meals are delivered by the Community Care Services wonderful Meals on Wheels Volunteers. These people give freely of their time and are an integral part of this service.

The Personal Care service is provided to enable eligible residents to live independently by assisting with personal tasks that they are unable to perform on their own.

Additional Information: The Infectious Disease Control Service discreetly investigate all notifiable infectious disease cases, ensure that the potential for spread is minimised and educate patients and their families to facilitate a quick recovery.

Health Act 1958. Notifiable diseases are investigated by council's Environmental Health Officers with a view to preventing recurrences, minimising spread and educating patients and their families to facilitate a quick recovery. All investigations are carried out discreetly and patient information is kept confidential.

All data collected is conveyed to the Human Services Department of Victoria and any leads which may indicate further spread are followed up.

COMMON INFECTIOUS DISEASES

Campylobacter – Campylobacter gastroenteritis is a type of food poisoning caused by the bacteria Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli. Campylobacter bacteria can be found in or on:
- raw poultry, raw meats
- unpasteurised milk
- untreated water
- puppies and kittens
- wild animals and birds

Salmonella – There are numerous stereotypes of Salmonella that are pathogenic for both animals and man. Salmonella is a bacterial disease commonly manifested by an acute inflammation of the small and large intestine. The bacteria originate in the bowel, intestine of humans and animals (especially chickens), raw foods and untreated water.

Staphylococcus Aureus – This bacteria originates on skin, nose, saliva and in the bowel of humans. Symptoms usually occur abruptly and sometimes violent, with severe nausea, cramps and vomiting.

Listeria Monocytogenes – Listeria infection (Listeriosis) is an illness caused by eating contaminated with bacteria called Listeria monocytogenes. Those most at risk are pregnant women and the immune-compromised.

Giardiasis – Giardia infection causes an illness called Giardiasis. This is a bowel infection caused by a tiny protozoan organism called Giardia lamblia.

Ross River Virus & Barmah Forest Virus – Ross River Virus and Barmah Forest Virus cause epidemic polyarthritis. They are the most important mosquito-borne viruses in Western Australia in terms of human disease. The two viruses have similar life cycles and cause similar symptoms in people.

Additional Information: The Immunisation Service is available to provide a service whereby residents of all ages have access to free immunization services, thereby reducing the incidence of preventable life threatening diseases.

The coordination of infant, adult and school immunization clinics is undertaken throughout the year. Infant health immunizations are undertaken weekly at various Clinics. A review of this service has seen the need for an appointment service and that is currently being implemented.

The Gannawarra Shire Council Health Services conducts a FREE immunization program.

The immunization clinics mainly cater for children to be vaccinated against various childhood diseases such as diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, meningitis, polio, measles and mumps.

Adults may also utilise these clinics to receive their diphtheria/tetanus booster injections, which are necessary every 10 years.

FREE INFLUENZA Vaccinations are now available to all adults 65 years of age and older.
