Additional Information:
Fluoroscopy is an imaging technique that uses x-rays to create 'real-time' or moving images of the body. It helps doctors see how an organ or body system functions. Fluoroscopy is used in a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
The Fluoroscopy procedure takes 45 to 60 minutes. After changing into a hospital gown, the patient lies on a bed-like table that can be positioned horizontally or vertically.
Payment options: fees apply, bulk billing available for eligible patients.

Additional Information:
Ultrasound is a diagnostic imaging technique which uses inaudible sound waves to produce an image of some of the organs and structures of the body.
A sonographer will perform the ultrasound, obtaining representative images of the structure being examined. The area being examined will need to be bare of clothing to obtain the images.
Ultrasound gel, which is cold on the skin, is applied to enable the sound waves to penetrate the skin.
Payment options: fees apply, bulk billing available for eligible patients.

Additional Information:
We have two Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems in the department which provide detail about various parts of the body. MRI scans are used to investigate or diagnose conditions such as disease or injury to the heart, brain, digestive organs, tumours anywhere in the body and spinal and joint injury or disease.
The MRI machine uses a magnetic field and radio waves to take pictures of the body's interior. MRI scans are safe and available for neonates to adults.
Some patients may require a general anaesthetic to prepare them for the scan, and all patients are provided with hearing protection from the scanner noise.
Payment options: fees apply, bulk billing available for eligible patients.

Additional Information:
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computed Tomography (CT) service.
We provide Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computed Tomography (CT) molecular imaging services within our state of the art imaging suite.
PET scans use very small amounts of radioactive material to diagnose some diseases in a safe and painless way. These materials are called radiotracers and they collect in certain parts of the body for a short time. While the tracer stays in the body, it can be used to show parts of the body with certain conditions.
Payment options: fees apply, bulk billing available for eligible patients.

CT Scan (CAT Scan):
Computed Tomography uses x-rays to take images inside the body. It is similar to a plain x-ray however it takes lots of pictures of a section (cross sections) of your body which are then made into 3D images.
You may be asked to drink a special liquid or be given an injection of x-ray dye for your scan.
The scanner has a round opening in the centre and a flat bed for you to lie on. While you are lying on the bed, it will slowly move you into the opening where the pictures are taken. The movement is controlled by the CT staff.
Multi-slice CT scans are reliable, fast and non-invasive. They can be used to show body parts in detail such as the brain, lungs, bones, abdominal organs and blood vessels.
Payment options: fees apply, bulk billing available for eligible patients.
