Connecting Us is an 8 week group program, which gives children the change to meet others in a similar situation, within a safe environment to have fun and share experiences. Children learn that there are others struggling with mixed emotions and difficulties that are often part of family life.

The workshops encourage children to talk about their feelings, as sharing can reduce the isolation many siblings feel and it can also help them to see the positives. Through the group process children learn ways to deal with problems that arise helping them fell stonger and more able to influence what happens around them.

Additional Information: The Y-Factor and Junior Y-Factor Groups work with boys who experience difficulties in personal relationships. We focus on helping them learn positive strategies to appropriately express feelings of anger, sadness and frustration and how to deal with conflict, in a safe environment.

The Y-Factor Programs were developed using research and evidence gathered by a similar community group program run by the Royal Children's Mental Health Service and Travancore School and by reference to the cognitive behaviour therapy work of Dr Tony Atwood.

Y-Factor aims to assist participants to begin to identify their emotional triggers before they are overwhelmed and engage in difficult to manage or self-harming type behaviours. This program provides children with appropriate, practical and positive strategies to deal with conflict and the opportunity to practice them.

This service is available for residents of Sunbury, Bulla and Diggers Rest for children aged between 5 and 13 years. Courses will cater for difference age groups throughout the year.
