The 50 and Better Program supports older people to develop and manage healthy ageing programs in their own communities using community development principles and practices. The program has a number of goals focused on increasing older people's awareness of healthy lifestyle options, decreasing social isolation and improving linkages and information exchange with other health services.

The program offers participants a mix of physical, social and intellectual activities that support people to make connections with others and to develop interests. Activities include exercise programs, health talks, craft activities, theatre groups, card games and opportunities to explore information technology.

Mackay and District Education Centre (MADEC) works closely with the youth sector and young people 'at risk' of early school leaving and has experienced first hand the need for youth focused, customised education/training programs that meets the end goal of assisting young people to escape the stigma of being 'at risk' and to become 'in demand'.

Parents of children aged from 5 months to 12 months are urged to attend Older Babies Group sessions in Mackay to learn about sleeping, dental care and development for their baby.
Groups consist of three sessions over a one-month period and is run through the Child Youth and Family Health Unit at the Community Health Centre in Nelson Street, Mackay.

YIRS One Stop Youth Shop formerly Youth Information and Referral Service identifies needs of young people aged 10 to 25 years in the community and has recently expanded services to further meet the needs of our young people. YIRS operates in Mackay's CBD and offers a holistic model that include free, fully supported Youth Health Program, free support and advisory services for issues including employment, training, housing, legal, relationships, pregnancy, mental health, and drug and alcohol, delivers an Individual Support Program that assists young people in addressing their presenting needs and underlying issues. YIRS staff also advocate for young people when necessary.
