The Inner North West Primary Care Partnership (INW PCP) was formed in 2010 from over 30 health and human service agencies within the four local government areas (LGAs) of Melbourne, Yarra, Moreland and Moonee Valley. The catchment includes some 456,647 residents (as of 2012) and three neighbourhood renewal areas. The vision of the INW PCP is founded on the social model of health, and aims to improve the health and wellbeing of our target population. The INWPCP seeks to achieve this by engaging and collaborating with member agencies in the primary care and acute sectors around integrated health promotion, service coordination and integrated chronic disease management. The INW PCP has identified particular priorities unique to its catchment area, which include: STRATEGIC PRIORITY 1: Prevention of Violence against Women (inclusive of children and families) STRATEGIC PRIORITY 2: Improve system capacity to increase prevention and support people from priority populations with chronic disease and its co-morbidities.

Viral hepatitis damages the liver, is a potentially deadly disease affecting 2% of the community.  And yet it is preventable, and we need a greater reponse to that more people are tested and treated.
 
Stigma and discrimination is a pressing issue for many people with viral hepatitis and can have a wide-ranging impact on both their own health as well as the community as a whole. When people feel stigmatised, it may affect their ability to access the services that they need. 

It is illegal is Australia to discriminate against anybody on the basis of their hepatitis status – whether hepatitis B or hepatitis C. However, many people with hepatitis continue to report facing negative attitudes and suspicion within their communities and this may lead to them choosing not to disclose their hepatitis status -  keeping hepatitis hidden in the community. 

Hepatitis Victoria works to stop the stigma related to hepatitis by striving to educate the community about the virus and to empower people with hepatitis to become self-advocates and to redress any discrimination they may have experienced – including working with them for the duration of any legal cases. 

We provides training on best practice around hepatitis in relation to infection control procedures and OH&S guidelines.  We also have a Public Speakers Bureau so you can book speakers who will share their lived experience.

Hepatitis Victoria also provides advice and expertise to government and other influential bodies on matters relating to hepatitis.

Wadja Aboriginal Family Place- Wadja Health Clinic is a weekly general medical clinic for Aboriginal children which provides medical, social, cultural and emotional assessment. The focus of the clinic is on the management of Aboriginal patients with complex health and social issues by a team.  A paediatrician will see the child and family together with an Aboriginal Case Manager with the aim of enabling a family to feel supported and culturally empowered. An Aboriginal Family Health Worker will also be available during clinic hours for further support if required by the family.  No Cost. Badjurr-Bulok Wilam, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Hospital Liaison Officers (ATSIHLO)- Badjurr-Bulok Wilam, meaning 'Home of many women' in the Woiwurrung language of the Wurundjeri Peoples, provides culturally appropriate support and advocacy services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to address social, emotional and cultural needs. Services offered include accessing the hospital's services, information and referrals to services and practical assistance. Badjurr-Bulok Wilam provides a resting place for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and families attending the Women's, where women and families can sit and yarn with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Hospital Liaison Officers (ATSIHLO). It is best to call and make a time to catch up with staff at Badjurr-Bulok Wilam to avoid having to wait.
