You can contact the Cancer Helpline, Monday to Friday 8.30 am to 5.30 pm on 13 11 20.
The Cancer Helpline is staffed by enquiries officers, who answer all general enquiries, and nurse counsellors, who are registered nurses with oncology qualifications and experience. Although we do not provide individual medical advice, we are able to discuss the effects of specific types of cancer and different methods of treatment with a caller and translate and explain what will happen during chemotherapy, radiotherapy or other cancer treatment.
The Cancer Helpline is available in languages other than English through the Multilingual Cancer Information Line.
Using ACCCIS, a unique database of resources, Cancer Helpline staff provide callers with links to cancer support groups and other community resources. Each contact is confidential and callers may remain anonymous.
Information is also available on cancer prevention and early detection, including related Cancer Council programs. Teachers and students may obtain resources designed for use in schools and employers may obtain resources and information for the workplace. Health professionals may also use the service to access up-to-date information.
The Cancer Helpline is part of The Cancer Council Victoria's Cancer Information and Support Service which is a member of the International Cancer Information Service Group established under the auspices of the UICC.
