The Townsville Public Health Unit (TPHU) supports the Townsville, Mackay and Northwest Hospital and Health Services.
TPHU coordinates and supports public health programs for priority health issues of national, state-wide and local significance, undertakes health surveillance and disease control initiatives including response to disease outbreaks, and implements or oversees the implementation of public health legislation. The Unit is distinguished from other roles of the health system by its focus on the health and well-being of populations, rather than individuals. The objectives are: - protecting health - preventing disease and illness.
