Newborn and Children's Hearing is an amalgamation of the Universal Neonatal Hearing (UNHS) program and the Hearing Assessment Service (HAS) provided by Women's and Children's Health Network. The UNHS program is a state-wide population based service for infants 0-6 months of age. All infants born in South Australian are offered hearing screening. Infants who do not pass their hearing screen are referred for diagnostic audiological assessment.: EntryProcedures Children aged 0-4 years of age and 13-18 years of age can enter the HAS service with a written referral by a profession or by the child's family. Children aged 4-12 years of age are seen by the HAS if they do not pass their hearing test performed by their local Child and Family Health Nurse. Infants seen by the UNHS program are referred after not passing their hearing screen or who meet criteria for direct referral into the program. Consulting hours are variable and depend on clinics that are booked.: WaitingListDetails UNHS has approximtely a 2-8 week wait, depending on priority of referral which is received. HAS has waiting times approximately 2-4 months.
