The Boylan Ward is the only designated psychiatric inpatient facility for children and adolescents in South Australia and provides specialised care and support for children and adolescents with severe mental health problems who are experiencing the early stages of a psychotic illness, are suffering severe mental disorder (including depression) often with a suicidal component, have complex and coexisting disorders requiring multiple assessments and specialized care.
Children and adolescents between 3 and 17 years who have complex problems requiring further assessment to determine diagnosis and treatment needs may be admitted. Most services for children 12 years and under will comprise planned admissions for assessment purposes.
CAMHS provides a range of programs for children, young people and infants in a number of locations across the state. Services are provided at the Women's and Children's Hospital (WCH) in the Boylan Ward and the Dept. of Psychological Medicine, Helen Mayo House at Glenside Hospital, western, northern and eastern metropolitan community locations as well as a large number of country locations across the northern part of South Australia.
