The Mackay Health Service District offers women and children a comprehensive range of services to promote and maintain good health.
Obstetrics:
The maternity /women's unit provides inpatient and outpatient, postnatal women and women undergoing gynaecology procedures within the local region. Every mother, infant and family is entitled to receive the highest possible standard of care available. Our focus is on promoting a bond between parents and baby and providing the education, knowledge and skills required for parenting, with confidence at home.
We offer a range of services to enhance parenting skills, including:
Midwifery home visiting program,
Lactation consultant,
Monthly antenatal breast feeding classes;
Monthly postnatal breast feeding classes;
Community midwife clinics,
Antenatal education classes.
The hospital also offers a neo-natal nursery to care for premature or babies with medical or surgical problems. Staffed by specialist nurses, the neo-natal unit works closely with the Townsville Base Hospital's neo-natal retrieval service for cases that require high level care.
