Caring for the Mother's and Children of our Community
The birth of a baby is a very important and special time in your life and the lives of other family members. The staff of the Kyneton District Health Service endeavour to enhance this experience by providing the best possible care for you and your baby in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Enjoy specialised care knowing that you are being cared for by health professionals who respect your rights and requests about the care of yourself and your baby.
The maternity unit aims to provide safe and appropriate total care to women who give birth at Kyneton District Health Service. This care is available for any admissions during the pregnancy, birth and post natal periods.
Childbirth Classes
Childbirth education classes are conducted bi-monthly at the Hospital by our highly skilled midwives. Husbands/partners or friends are encouraged to attend with expecting mothers.
Domicilian midwifery is available to women after discharge.
Victorian Maternity Record
Kyneton District Health Service uses the Victorian Maternity Record (VMR). The VMR is a way of recording pregnancy and birth care. Women receive a record at the start of their pregnancy, which they will bring to all of their appointments, where entries are made by the doctors and midwives. Antenatal, birth, in hospital postnatal care and postnatal care after discharge entries are made in the record.
